New Policy and Practice Note: Catapulting Sustainable and Healthy Public Food Procurement in the UK

We’re excited to publish the second in our series of Policy and Practice notes. This policy and practice note builds on insights from across the TUKFS programme as well as recent work, including the Will Quince MP Public Food Procurement Review (May 2024) and a Public Food Procurement Roundtable hosted by FixOurFood (University of York) in July 2025.

Catapulting Sustainable and Healthy Public Food Procurement in the UK synthesises insights from these discussions and TUKFS research to outline a strategic approach to deliver on the Good Food Cycle. It highlights best practices, key challenges and actionable recommendations to catalyse public sector food procurement transformation for:

  • education, culture, and demand generation
  • policy interventions and governance reform
  • supply chain support and SME engagement

This note highlights the powerful lever of public procurement to deliver across key outcomes of the new UK Government food strategy.
